When it comes to award shows, the Emmys, Oscars and Golden Globes are a great night for fashion but the VMAs consistently holds it’s own as the stars get more expressive.
Last night’s VMAs was no different as some of the biggest stars took to the carpet to celebrate all the summer anthems that premiered this year.
Here are some of the biggest moments from the red carpet.
Arguably the most watched person last night was Taylor Swift. Walking the red carpet, audiences could not wait to see her make a public appearance for the first time since the release of her highly anticipated album, Lover. I’m happy to say that the songstress did not disappoint with her Christian Louboutin and Lorraine Schwartz look. Taylor seemingly combined two notable eras of her music - the Reputation era and the Lover era - and accessorized with confidence.
Another look that compelled viewers yesterday was Halsey's fiery dress with her long hair swept back with pride.
Her look was rather applaudable considering that the she wasn’t nominated for much but still put in effort. Additionally, her utilization of a relatively low-profile designer, Dundas, kept that unconventional feel about her style alive and we could not be more grateful.
Lizzo got some fresh photos with the bomb lighting yesterday in red Moschino. It was a big night for the Truth Hurts songstress as she was nominated for best new artist. She may not have won but she certainly dressed like a winner.
It’s Zara Larsson’s fault that no one could concentrate on the answers to her questions as a red-carpet host because she stole all the attention in GiamBattista Valli.
Keke Palmer didn’t make us wait for Hustlers to dazzle us with talent as she owned the red carpet yesterday in David Yurman paired with a Judith Leiber clutch.
However, the ladies didn’t have all the fun.
It’s indisputable; Lil Nas killed it last night with an outfit as shimmering as his career. And Lenny Kravitz on any red carpet? Nothing more needs to be said.
Another great blue moment came from Terrence J who wore a blue suit that perfectly clashed with the blood red of the red carpet. And, he managed to pull off the risky move of wearing sneakers with a suit.
It should be noted that the fashion wasn’t the only big win of the night.
Other big wins included:
Best Hip-hop: Cardi B, Money
Best new artist: Billie Eilish
Video for good: Taylor Swift, You Need To Calm Down
Video of the year: Taylor Swift, You Need To Calm Down
Song of the year: Lil Nas X ft Billy Ray Cyrus, Old Town Road
Best group: BTS
